Family Photo Buddy

Family Photo Buddy Server allows you to share your Family Photo Buddy database over your local network and access your photo collections from any computer.

Now 100% FREE. We used to charge a small fee assuming most people would need a wee bit of help setting up their server. Well, phooey with that. We decided to give it away and we'll do our best to answer any questions you have.

The server is not our work to begin with either. Full credit goes to now extinct TurboPower Software (http://www.turbopower.com) for the robust FlashFiler database.

While it will work over the Internet, usually this will be too slow since you will be limited by the upstream bandwidth of the computer running the server. It is designed for and works best over your local, speedy network.

You will have full control of your shared photo database. You won't be dependent on any external servers or web sites. No monthly fees and no third parties.

There are no costs for people to use your database since the Family Photo Buddy client itself is free and that is all you need. Your users won't have to "register" with any third parties (including us!).

To host a Family Photo Buddy Server, you'll need:

A computer connected to the Internet or your local network running Windows NT/2000/XP to be the server. Windows 95/98/Me would work too, but...
To be capable of setting up your own network stuff if you have to open port(s) through firewalls, etc. Generally you just run it, the other computers connect, and it is easy to get going. The network can be running TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, or NetBIOS.

The databases can require login with user names and passwords for complete security. Some users can be "read only".

When not in use, the server uses very little CPU or other resources. It won't bog down the computer it is running on, even when in use for that matter.
